Reekie Machining

McMillan Coffee Morning, September 22.

This year our annual coffee morning was held on Thursday 29th September, raising money for a great cause MacMillan Cancer Support.  Our Insitu machinists, Welders, Turners and Project Engineers and partners once again got their baking hats on (or stopped at the local supermarket) to delight us with the baking skills and tasty goodies.

Mrs Richmond’s carrot cake made an unexpected appearance following her husband Jim retiring from Reekie Machining in June of this year after over 50 years service, but it was gratefully received as always.  Our HR manager Charlotte’s Victoria sponge made another popular appearance, you can see this in all its glory in the photos! Mouthwatering!

Notable mention also has to be given to the blocks of tablet made by Mrs McLardie, wife of our Insitu Supervisor Tam, see them below with a pen beside for scale!  Sugarific!

At the end of the day, truth be told there was plenty left for the Friday too, the count brought us in at £198 raised for a great cause.

Knowledge Shared

Whilst looking across Reekie Machining’s machine shop, it is a rewarding sight to see a time served turner with over 50 years of experience, sharing and passing on his knowledge to a 4th year apprentice at the start of his career working in Mechanical Engineering.

Standing side by side at the Broadbent vertical borer, turning an impellor, they were keeping a watchful eye on the job, whilst Willie was explaining to Darren the process points for the machine.

Technology continues to move forward and at Reekies we are continually developing what we can do and offer, including a portable CNC machining.  This is all possible through continuing to train and develop our staff, ensuring strong foundations skills from the start of the journey.  An integral part of this is the passing on of knowledge and experience from one generation to the next.  A vital part of the apprentices learning and rewarding for those passing on their knowledge.

Landmark Moment

Our newly developed CNC Thread Milling Machine has just reached a landmark moment, 1000 off M98x200 deep holes, machined on a project Reekie Machining are working on in The Netherlands.

The thread milling machine, is the vision and design of the Insitu Engineering Team, utilising the expertise of Alan Blakey, the Senior Design Engineer.  This portable CNC machine is machining every hole to specification, first time, every time.  Providing the customer with an efficient, quick, and accurate process.

Christmas Jumper Day (and more!)

Look what got left under our Christmas tree, on Thursday 9th December as the staff at Reekie Machining, donned their Christmas jumpers, along with Christmas t-shirts, Santa hats, head boppers, face masks and even underfrillies.  We even had our very own Santa look alike, aka Peter our Machine Shop Supervisor.

Whilst being good fun and bringing a smile to everyone face and a mince pie at morning tea break too, it was done in aid of Renfrewshire Foodbank.  The staff were very generous in bringing in goodies and making donations.

Picture, in their “dashing” Christmas attire are some of the staff from Project Engineers to millers and turners and the office staff.    We are still waiting for the photographic evidence that out insitu squad were cosy on site in their Christmas jumpers too!

Cyber Essentials Certification

In early 2021, Reekie Machining gained Cyber Essentials Certification.  Cyber Essentials is a simple but effective, Government backed scheme that will help protect our organisation, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks.  This helps us give peace of mind to all our customers and suppliers, whether they be subcontract, construction, engineering or even the offshore industries, that we do the utmost to protect their data as well as our own.

This is just another step for Reekie Machining striving to be experts in all fields.

World’s biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan – Reekie Style

On Thursday 30th September 2021 we held a coffee morning to raise money for a great cause, MacMillan Cancer Support.  Our Insitu machinists, Welders, Turners and Project Engineers all got their baking hats on (or stopped at the local supermarket) to delight us with the baking skills and tasty goodies.

A returning favourite of Mrs Richmond’s carrot cake was well received as always but our HR manager Charlotte’s Victoria sponge was a close challenger for that top spot.  Notable mentions also have to be given to the cookies from Design department and Nutella Krispie cake from the Accounts Team.  Calorific!

At the end of the day with a lot of full bellies and raised blood sugars, the count brought us in at over £200 raised for a great cause.

Lookin’ fresh – new additions to the Reekie fleet

In late February 2021 we took delivery of 4 new vans to our fleet.  Replacing 2 of our older workhorses who had travelled up and down the UK so many times in their 6 years services, whether it was going to a Nuclear Power Station, a Renewable Energy site or to an offshore job, they certainly had a good innings.

Damar Ltd in Barrhead provided us with the van liveries once again, as they did in 2014.  We thank Therese and Margaret for their help and great service in making the new vans look fresh and ready to transport the Reekie in situ squad to wherever the customer requires them.

Keep your eyes peeled for our new fleet on the road.
